UFC Cuts Latino Fighter Over Rape Joke Tweet

UFC fighter Forrest Griffin was able to explain his way out of his rape joke tweet. He was not fired by the UFC.

After many criticized UFC for not doing anything about unacceptable hate speech by people associated with the company, Dana White was quoted as saying: “Everybody makes mistakes and everybody does things that are wrong sometimes. … We do the best we can do. How do you really think that we could possibly police 375 fighters and try to control everything they say.

Now Dana White says regarding fighter Miguel Torres’ recent rape joke tweet, “There's absolutely nothing I could say to make any sense of that. And the fact that he even thinks that's funny or that's a joke, it disturbs me. It bothers me.” So the UFC cut Torres from its roster.

Why is it that the first time the UFC would act to punish a fighter for unacceptable speech, the company picked a Latino fighter?

At another company Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta own, Station Casinos, 78% of the 87 labor law violations committed by the company against its workers – as found in an NLRB administrative law judge’s recent recommended decision – involved Latino workers. Even the company says only 26% of its workforce is Latino.

  1. Are you kidding me? I don't even recognize this name...Easier to cut if you can't fight in an a**-kicking organization...Latino??? PFFFT!!!

  3. It isn't because he is a latino, I will tell you that much. Why don't you mention Rashad Evans in this post who made the penn state joke? He's black but you guys don't seem to mention that do you? Just because you guys have some sort of problems with the Fertita's and you guys are teaming up with the culinary union doesn't give you the right to make assumptions like these. You guys also forget that he is once again a zuffa employee, but I am sure you will believe that he got his job back to prevent racial issues huh.. Why don't you put your personal dislike for mixed martial arts behind you, and accept that it's what the people want to see, and that it is a legitimate sport that studies show are safer than football or cheerleading etc. So I guess you want kids to stop participating/watching football and cheerleading as well?.

  4. Former WEC champ Miguel Torres has been rehired by the UFC after offering an apology and taking rape sensitivity classes, as well as donating money to charity that helps rape victims.

  5. Wow, this whole website is very misleading. Torres is actually back in the UFC. The reason he was let go in the first place was because he is somewhat of an unpopular fighter who went on a losing streak and if he loses anymore he will probably get let go again.

Around the same time Rashad Evans made that Penn state joke and nothing happened to him and he is black.

Is this website leading me to believe that the UFC and Zuffa are only targeting Latino fighters?

Fact: The UFC is trying to corner the market in that part of the world, They highly value any fighter from other parts of the world right now because it brings awareness to their promotion.

This website needs to check their facts a little more closely.

  8. Dana's reasons for cutting him and not Griffin had more to do with mounting pressure reaching a boiling point, and finding a sacrificial lamb than keeping the white guy and firing the minority. Truth is the UFC has been too white in management's eye for some time and the diversity is a good thing for business.

  10. That's rich coming from Dana White who has no problem making homophobic comments.. It is about time that the UFC clean up it's act and join the current century.

  14. targeting latinos? yeah right! who do you think you're fooling?

if you were genuinely interested in combating sexist and misogynistic discourse in the UFC, then you would unite with them in an effort to re-shape the attitudes of some of these fighters --it would be money better spent. rather, you're just trying to be a thorn in their side. you come off as childish and immature.

hire a new PR firm, because whoever created this smear campaign sucks. trust me, i've created a few in my DC days.
